Measuring your beans will have the greatest impact on your morning coffee

Have you ever wondered why your home-brewed coffee doesn't taste the same every day? The secret might be the weight of your coffee. Here's why measuring your coffee beans can significantly improve your morning cup.

Making coffee is an art, akin to cooking or crafting the perfect cocktail. The ratios you use can either make or break the taste. In coffee making there is a concept called “Golden Ratio”, a fundamental principle when it comes to coffee making. For espresso, it's a 1:2 ratio of coffee to water; for filter coffees, it's a 1:16 ratio. These ratios are excellent starting points to achieve a great-tasting coffee at home.

However, keep in mind that these ratios are more like guidelines than strict rules. The key lies in dialling in your espresso to suit your taste preferences.

When measuring your coffee, always opt for a gram scale. Scooping coffee with a spoon might seem convenient, but it lacks accuracy. Beans can vary in size and density based on the roasting process. Incorporating this simple step into your morning routine can significantly enhance the taste of your home-brewed coffee! ☕
